Lutherans@Uni Camp

8 - 10 August 2025

Woodhouse Activity Centre, Piccadilly

Registrations Open

This is the annual camp for all Lutheran Students and their friends at university and post-secondary tertiary institutions such as TAFE and colleges (ALC, Tabor, etc). It is also for all recent graduates along with others who are interested in the topic and issues and would like to come along and seriously engage in passionate discussion about the big issues of faith and life.

It will also be a relaxed camp in which campers will be able to take in, socialise and enjoy time with the other campers. This has been a feature of these Uni Students' camps.

Saturday

We begin with a Bible Study on “The Sermon on the Mount” (Matthew’s Gospel, chapters 5-7. Then after morning tea/ coffee, we will have a panel of three people sharing on the topic of: “Radical Discipleship: Jesus uniquely loves his enemies in today’s world.” In the Sermon on the Mount, possibly the hardest call is to “love our enemies” (Matt 5:43-48). Our enemies can take all shapes and form and be found in all sorts of places, including our lectures and tutorials, our families and churches, the media and internet, as well as possibly physical enemies who want to kill or hurt us. Part of the idea behind this look at discipleship is seeing how we can engage with people of very different views and yet maintain both a loving and honest relationship, rather than one in separate “silos” in which it is easy to “love” the other person who is familiar to us or in the same “silo”. We will discuss and debate this, and other questions about Jesus’ call to discipleship, in small and larger groups. Your view is welcome and will be appreciated.

After lunch there will be activities outside around the site and also inside the camp building. Outside activities include in particular the thirty activities at Challenge Hill for individuals and groups. Challenge Hill is available both on the Saturday afternoon, and also Sunday afternoon, if you would like to continue to participate after we have vacated the actual camp after lunch on Sunday.

Later that day, late Saturday afternoon, after a different pace at Challenge Hill or just chilling, we will hear our next speaker asking “to what extent the message of the Gospel of Jesus is unique and exclusive?” This will be discussed in particular with reference to other religious faiths and humanism. But we will also explore how disciples of this unique person Jesus, can love and work alongside people who do not have the Gospel of Jesus at the centre of their lives.

The evening will include an evening devotion, camp fire, games, socialising and music.

Sunday

After a worship service we will draw together some concluding thoughts about the theme to take away with us. It will also include a general discussion about next year’s camp and also ask: “Where do we go from here with respect to ministry to tertiary students”.
