From the 14-17th of January, Fifty years 4-7 from around the SA-NT District came together and joined together for games, worship and plenty of food to discover why Jesus seemed to be “OUT OF THIS WORLD”.
Together with Pastor Adrian Kitson, we learned together that Jesus was no alien or stranger. But someone that we should get to know. That God’s love can change our hearts, and only he can bring us true peace. That through our Baptism, we have a new permanent citizenship in heaven. And finally that we are aliens with a purpose; we’re on a lifelong galactic mission to serve God.
We met Yib, Yob, residents of the Yellow Planet along with Blib and Blob the aliens from the Blue Planet. Together they learned that Aliens are not something strange, but rather someone who’s unfamiliar. With the help of Commander Yenjamen together they learned to become friends, as well as understand and respect one another’s culture.
We sought out on a space mission, crash landing on Mars. We had to repair our space ships and helmets, collecting resources (cardboard) from nearby stations to bring them home. Later we received communication from extra-terrestial beings that we had to decode, and uncover the hidden message: 2 Corinthians 5:17-20.
From pool-noodle hockey, to water balloon catch, to Super-Noodle Scoop Scoop. We had a blast, getting outside, getting active, and getting soaked. We finished it off with a dip in the picturesque Lake Bonney. The competition was stoked between campers and leaders with a water based obstacle course, the leaders were put in their place after an onslaught from the campers.
We had an amazing time on camp, and cannot wait to see everyone once again at the other camps throughout the year, or next year here at SPIN again.
