more about SPIN

our catchphrase...

for SPIN is ‘turning church upside down’. What this means for us is that we believe Church IS relevant for young people and we want to explore with them what it means to be Church today, including what they can do to serve their church community and what they can gain from the service itself. We want to make church something that they connect with in a meaningful way.

 AIMS

      • Grow in faith, in community and relationship with each other, leaders and God.
      • To create a fun atmosphere for growing in Christ and community
      • Putting a new spin on how young people interact with their faith
      • To support young leaders in developing their knowledge and skills that can be utilized in their church communities
      • To bring young people from different age groups together in a supportive mentoring environment

WHAT CAMP INVOLVES…

      • Worship
      • Faith teaching through a guest pastor
      • Fun activities including team games and more
      • Structured free time to allow campers to interact with each other and build friendships
      • Yummy food
      • The lake!

A Parent's Reflections on Spin Camp 2014

Mum:  Come on it’s time to go!

Miss 13: I don’t want to go…..

Mr 11: I want to stay here!

Mum: I’m afraid it really is time to go.

Miss 13 and Mr 11:  Noooooo!!!!!!!

I had this conversation with my children twice in the space of four days!  The first time was a Monday morning as I was trying to get them into the car to head off to Spin Camp.  Four days later we had the exact same conversation as I literally almost dragged them away from the camp!

It was with some trepidation that I waved my two children off to the first Spin Camp ever.  Had we done the right thing in almost forcing them to attend?  Would they be happy?  Would they be well fed?   What would they be doing?  So many questions … We made a decision based on faith, and prayed that they would have an enjoyable and meaningful experience.

All our prayers were answered, and then some!  The kids had “THE BEST TIME EVER!”  They made lots of new friends (with campers and leaders), they sang and danced and prayed, they talked about God, played games and on and on and on.   It sounded like they never stopped eating, even the child with special dietary requirements!   There was much talk about an epic water fight and Lil’ Reid.  The campers I drove home from Victor Harbor sang and talked over each other all the way home.

The blessings this camp has had are too numerous to list now but here are two.  The four children who attended the camp from our congregation shared their experiences and the songs they learnt with others during our Kids Club time.  Miss 13’s faith in particular has grown and matured from seeds planted at Spin Camp.

As a parent of initially reluctant campers I can’t sing the praises of Spin Camp enough. They had a tough gig to turn my two campers around but they did it!  Spin Camp is an awesome experience not to be missed.
